Portland events band Border Crossing performs classics and songs few other bands know. Portland vocalist Karen Kitchen sings in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.

Karen Kitchen, vocals

Portland oregon musician Karen KitchenKaren Kitchen, native of Oklahoma, is proud to be an enrolled member of the Osage Nation. Karen has collaborated on musical projects with Marv Ross, The Trail Band, Mel Kubik, Arlie Neskahi, Sean StandingBear, and Dave Carter, and is featured in the soundtrack to Gus Van Sant's film Mala Noche.

Karen sings in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and several Native American vocables

Kare Kitchen offers voice over singing and narration.

 


Peter Dammann, guitar

Portland Oregon blues musician Peter DammannChicago Illinois born blues guitar player Peter Dammann plays acoustic guitar. Peter has also played with: Paul Delay Band, D.K. Stewart, the David Vest Band and many more.

Fred Hard, upright bass

Fred Hard is a life-long bassist (over 50 years) who has crossed many musical borders before joining Border Crossing. He is a versatile player and dedicated to many different genres, including straight-ahead jazz, blues, country, and New Orleans jazz. He was the bass player on Kris Kristofferson's first ever recording session, has played with Hoagy Carmichael, and in the Tommy Dorsey Band, led by Warren Covington, and has just returned from his fourth trip to Japan where he was one of a group of musicians invited from all over the world to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the famed New Orleans Rascals Band of Osaka, Japan.

 

 

 


Al Martin, percussion, drums

Portland drummer Al Martin, percussionistI am an Afro Caribbean Percussionist. My instruments are Congas, Bongos, Timbales, traditional small hand percussion, and the concept of clave. Al Martin, most recently from Los Angeles, began his professional career at the age of seventeen in Portland Oregon. Al has performed in the U.S. Air Force Jazz Band Ensemble, Carnival Comparsas of Panama, and Ipanema Beach of Brazil. Some of his most memorable moments are performing with, Salsa Orchestra El Grand Combo de Puerto Rico, Poncho Sanchez, Chuchito Valdez, The Gerald Wilson Orchestra, and sharing the stage with Santana and Alice Coltrane. Al's friends and mentors throughout the years have been Mongo Santamaria, Armando Peraza, Ray Baretto, Carlos Potato Valdez, Changuito, Giovanni Hidalgo, Airto Moreira, Willie BoBo, Tito Puente, Herbie Mann, and Dave Valentine. Al is an internationally recognized percussionist who shares his experience as a rhythm evangelist and we are delighted have Al in Portland band Border Crossing.

 


Israel Annoh, percussion

Portland drummer Israel AnnohIsrael Annoh is the bands percussionist. His soothing on-stage presence and clever chops make him so very special to the band and audience.
